Why cut gaskets are not enough
Traditional cut gaskets fail due to improper surface preparation, mechanical stress, thermal cycling, and chemical exposure.
Permatex® Cut Gasket Coatings are formulated to be applied directly to cut gaskets—enhancing their durability, sealing integrity, and overall performance.

Permatex® offers three colors of Cut Gasket Coatings, Black, Grey, and Red. Each color has different product benefits for each application like added rigidity for high vibration areas or maximum flexibility for dissimilar metals.
frequently asked questions
Are Cut Gaskets good?
Many hard parts like Water Pumps, Valve Covers, and Oil Pumps come with paper or cork gaskets. These gaskets are lower quality and prone to tearing and breaking from chemicals and stress. Cut Gasket Coatings enhance and fortify paper and cork gaskets to create a long lasting, reliable seal.
What is the difference between Gasket Maker and Gasket Coating?
Gasket Makers are applied directly to a hard part sealing surface and create a long-lasting seal all by themselves. Gasket Coatings are designed to be used in combination with a cut gasket in order to enhance and fortify the cut gasket material, as they cannot create a seal on their own. Using a Gasket Maker in combination with a cut gasket can potentially create leaks.
What is the difference between Gasket Sealant and Gasket Coating?
Traditional Gasket Sealants can be applied to a cut gasket in order to add or enhance specific features or properties of the cut gasket, such as adding tackiness for ease of placement. By definition, our new Gasket Coatings are considered Gasket Sealants, however, their innovative and unique chemistry fortifies cut gasket material (paper, cork, composite) “upgrading” it in the process!
common applications
Common hard parts that come with cork, paper, or low quality cut gaskets are: Fuel Injection Replacement, Exhaust Manifold Replacement, Solenoid Replacement, Muffler Replacement, Water Pump Replacement, and Valve Cover Replacement.
Permatex® Cut Gasket Coatings enhance and fortify these gaskets to ensure long lasting performance.
